Teachers will not be required to give reasons for personal leave.

Teacher Evaluation

Teachers shall be evaluated in accordance with the Bay District Schools Teacher Assessment Manual. Teachers must receive a copy of the annual evaluative instrument by September 1. Any teacher hired after September 1 will be given a copy within 30 days after hiring. Category I and II teachers will be observed by the principal or his/her designee. The observation must be scheduled with the teacher 24 hours in advance. The evaluator will meet with the teacher prior to March 15 to discuss the evaluation. Both evaluator and teacher will sign the evaluation and the teacher will immediately receive a copy of the evaluation. The signature does not necessarily indicate agreement. An employee has the right to include an addendum to any written evaluation. No teacher shall be required to sign his or her observation or evaluation form prior to a conference.

Preparation Time

Elementary classroom teachers shall be provided no less than 30 minutes of planning and/or preparation time during the student class day for planning and conferences. Such time will be exempt from student supervisory duties. Teachers shall not be required to have regular daily supervisory duties of students before and after the school day.

Secondary classroom teachers will have one preparation period during the student class day for planning and conferences. The preparation period shall not be preempted for any required student supervisory duties. Teacher participation in extracurricular activities for which no additional compensation is paid shall be voluntary.

Haney teachers have a planning/conference period of not less than 55 minutes a day. Part time teachers of 3 hours or more have 30 minutes of planning/

conference per day.

Exceptions to the 7 1/2 hour day shall be: Open House, PTA/PTO, and graduation (not more than 4 activities per year). Compensatory time will be given. Teachers may also be required to attend after school faculty or professional meetings, but not more than 9 times per year nor more than 30 minutes beyond the regular school day. All teachers will have at least 30 minutes duty free time for lunch.

Personnel Files

A teacher shall be permitted to review his/her county office personnel file and may have duplicated any information in the file at his/her own cost. The review will be made in the presence of the administrator responsible for the file and the teacher may request the presence of a representative of his/her choice. Each teacher shall have the right to respond to all materials contained in his/her personnel file and to any materials to be placed in said file in the future. Such teacher responses shall be part of the file. The Board shall inform ABCE of any person other than the appropriate administrator/clerk who has examined a teacher's file. ABCE will inform the teacher.
